The University Grants Commission invites applications for the award of scholarship for the year 2007-08 & 2008-09 under the scheme of Award of Post Doctoral Fellowship to schedule caste/scheduled Tribe candidates.

This scheme has been initiated keeping in view the social background of the candidates from the deprived section of the society and to provide them an opportunity to undertake advance studies and research in science, Engg. & Tech., Humanities and Social Sciences in Indian University/Institutions/Colleges.

The objective of the scheme is to provide an opportunity to SC/ST candidates to undertake Post Doctoral Research in sciences, Engg. & Tech., Humanities and Social Sciences in Indian Universities/Institutions/Colleges.

The candidate must have a doctorate degree in the relevant subject preferably with published research work to their credit. The upper age limit for male applicants is 50 years as on Ist July of the year of the application and 55 years in the case of female candidates. In exceptional cases, the age may be relaxed. The tenure of the award is five years with No provision for further extension.

The financial assistance available under the scheme is as follows:-
Fellowship @ Rs.12,000/- p.m fixed for 5 years
Contingency @ Rs.30,000/- p.a for five years
Departmental Assistance 10% of Post-Doctoral fellowship to the host institution.
Escorts/Reader Assistance @ Rs.2000/- p.m (fixed) in cases of physically disabled & blind candidates.

The applications in the prescribed format given below, may be sent to the UNDER SECRETARY (SA-III) UNIVERSITY GRANTS COMMISSION, BAHADUR SHAH ZAFAR MARG, NEW DELHI�110002 duly forwarded t hrough the Universities/Institutions/Colleges where the fellow is pursuing his/her Post Doctoral Research within one month from the date of issue of advertisement (Non-extendable) for the scholarship for the year 2007-08. The last date of receipt of the application for the scholarship for the year 2008-09 is 01-09-2008.

The selection will be made with the help of an expert committee constituted by the commission. The decision of the commission in this regard will be final. Direct and incomplete applications will not be entertained. For further clarification if any may visit ugc web site www.ugc.ac.in.
