Common Research Entrance Test (CRET) 2009 at BHU.


The Banaras Hindu University invites applications for admission to programmes leading to Doctor of Philosophy/Vidyāvāridhi Degree (herein after referred to as the Ph. D. Degree) in various disciplines as given in Section A for registration in September 2009 (July 2009 for faculties of Agriculture and Engineering and Technology) and March 2010 (January 2010 for faculties of Agriculture and Engineering and Technology) semesters. Registration shall be done as per norms decided by the Academic Council of the University from time to time, provided the result of the qualifying examination. is declared on or before the start of counseling for admission to a semester. The admission to the said programme shall be (a) through the Common Research Entrance Test (CRET) to be conducted at Varanasi on 12th July’ 09 and (b) directly for the CRET exempted categories (as detailed at Section H of this information bulletin).
Following disciplines are available in the various faculties of the University in which Ph.D./ Vidyāvāridhi degree shall be awarded:
Faculty: Science
Main disciplines in Life sciences in which CRET will be held:
Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology*, Botany, Environmental Science & Technology, Environmental Science, Applied Microbiology, Molecular & Human Genetics, Zoology.
Eligibility: M.Sc Life Sciences (see original notification for more details, Link given below)
IMPORTANT:
NET (JRF), NET (LS) and GATE qualified candidates shall be eligible for direct admission (besides other categories of candidates listed at Section H of this information bulletin) without appearing in CRET. However, if candidates belonging to NET (LS)/ GATE wish to be considered for BHU research fellowship,
they will have to appear in CRET and be admitted as CRET candidate (except for faculty of Engineering and Technology where existing fellowship norms shall apply)
 
QUALIFYING EXAMINATION AND MINIMUM PERCENTAGE OF MARKS:
A candidate shall be required to have passed the qualifying examination securing the minimum percentage of marks and a minimum of 50 marks in Academic Record as per details given below: (see original notification, Link given below)

IMPORTANT DATES:
Commencement date of sale of application forms from the office counter and by post : 25.05.2009
Last date for receipt of requisition for sending the application forms by registered post : 08.06.2009
Last date for sale of application forms from the office counter : 20.06.2009
Last date for receipt of duly completed application forms both by hand and by post : 20.06.2009
DAY, DATE AND TIME OF CRET : Sunday, 12.07.2009 from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.

How to apply: SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM:
(i) The completed application form can be deposited in the envelope supplied with the application form for the purpose to the “Office of the Controller of Examinations, Banaras Hindu University, on or before June 20, 2009 or the completed application form may be sent to the Controller of Examinations Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi – 221 005 by post so as to reach in his office on or before June 20, 2009. The applicants submitting their application forms at the BHU counter will be given acknowledgement slip.
(ii) Application forms shall be received at the counter without any immediate scrutiny. The validity of the application form shall be based on its objective scrutiny to be conducted at the time of admission (if called for the same).
The candidates will be required to write the preferences for disciplines along with code numbers on the ‘Application Form’.
