M.Tech (Biotechnology) Admission at NIT Durgapur for GATE and non GATE candidates

Applications are invited for admission to the following M. Tech courses at National Institute of Technology, Durgapur. The candidates who have qualified GATE will be preferred.

Course: M.Tech Biotechnology
Qualification: B.Tech. (Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Biochemical Engineering/ Food Technology/ Chemical Engineering/ Pharmacy) having 65% marks from any recognized University/ Institute.

Eligibility: Candidates possessing appropriate degree with a minimum 65% marks or equivalent in credit and grade system in qualifying degree examination.

Selection Procedure:

  • GATE-qualified candidates will be given preference for admission to Full-Time M. Tech. programmes. In case of non-availability of enough number of GATE-qualified candidates, the resulting vacant seats will be filled with non-GATE candidates strictly based on merit through a written test followed by viva-voce.
  • Full-Time GATE-qualified candidates: 70% weightage on GATE Score and 30% weightage on viva-voce. GATE-qualified candidates for admission to Full-Time programmes are required to appear for a viva-voce in respective departments at NIT, Durgapur.
  • Full Time non-GATE, Full-Time Sponsored and Part-time candidates: 30% weightage on written Test, 40% weightage on viva-voce in respective departments at NIT, Durgapur and 30% weightage on Percentage of Marks / CGPA obtained in the last qualifying examination.
  • Sponsored candidates must have a minimum of two years full-time work experience in a registered Firm/ Company /Industry /Educational or Research Institutions/ any Government Autonomous Organizations in the relevant field in which admission is being sought. A letter from the Employer must be furnished along with the application stating that the candidate is being sponsored to get admission. The Employer should also indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn midway till the completion of the programme and will not claim for a job through Campus interview at NIT Durgapur.

Scholarship:

Post graduate scholarship of Rs. 8000 per month will be awarded to Full-Time GATE-qualified studentssubject to the condition that they do not receive financial assistance from any other sources during their course of study in the Institute.

Prescribed Application form and Instruction Sheet will be available from the Cash Section of NIT, Durgapur from 07.04.2010 to 04.06.2010 between 10.30 A.M. and 1.00 P.M. (working days) on payment of Rs. 500 (Rs. 250 for SC/ST Candidates) by Demand Draft drawn in favour of “Director, NIT Durgapur” payable at State Bank of India, R. E. College branch (Code No. 2108), Durgapur. Application form can also be downloaded from the website www.nitdgp.ac.in and the Demand Draft be enclosed with the application. The envelope containing the duly filled-in application and relevant enclosures should be superscribed “Application for M. Tech Programme-2010-11 in (Biotechnology), Department of Biotechnology” and should be addressed to:
